Testing of Software - From Research to Practice

Theme and Aim of the Workshop
-----------------------------

Costs entailed by software failures demonstrate that the systematic
development of software in a certain quality is still a challenge, even
after decades of research. A reason for this can certainly be found
within the single projects. Often, known techniques of quality
assurance are not employed as required due to deadline and budget
restrictions. However, a reason is surely a limited transfer from
research results to practice. An example for this are the manifold
research activities in dynamic testing, coverage criteria based testing
in particular, and a very limited application of corresponding testing
techniques in industrial projects.

Reasons for a limited transfer from research to practice can be:

* Lack of theoretically founded testing techniques for practical use
* Limited insight on requirements from practice
* Limited dissemination of formal testing techniques
* Complexity of testing techniques and tools
* Inappropriate assumptions underlying testing techniques
* Lack of tool support for the use in large projects
* Inappropriate cost estimates
* Effort required for training
* Lack of management support

This full-day workshops aims at giving researchers and
practitioners a platform to present their results, their experience and
also their expectations to each other. This will not only allow a more
intensive transfer from research to practice, this will also form the
basis for a more fruitful cooperation in future.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Formal testing techniques in practice, eg. model-based testing,
   mutation testing, LCSAJ-Testing
* Static, analytical and dynamic testing techniques
* Testing and reliability (availability, security etc.)
* Testing measures and their quantification
* Tools for automated testing
* Test management
* Cost and effort estimates of existing testing techniques
* Experience reports and case studies from practice
* Requirements from practice

Submission/Publication
----------------------
Three types of submissions are welcome: Full papers, short papers and
fast abstracts. The latter two aim at giving interesting ongoing work
the possibility to be presented and discussed in a broader audience.
Feedback and discussion in an early stage facilitates a later transfer
of the corresponding results to practice, which is the main objective
of the workshop.

Full papers will have 25 minutes for presentation, short papers 15
minutes, and fast abstracts 10 minutes. Similarly, the length of the
corresponding submissions are limited to 10, 5, and 2 pages,
respectively.

Important dates
Jan. 07, 2007: Submission due date
Feb. 01, 2007: Notification of acceptance
Feb. 15, 2007: Due date for camera ready copies

Accepted submissions will be published in an edition of the series
"Lecture Notes in Informatics (LNI)". For this, one of the authors
needs to register and present the accepted submission. Besides this,
best papers will be published in a special issue in a scientific
journal.
