The Software for Process Safety Laboratory, part of the CEA-List (450

researchers in the field of software-intensive systems, see
http://www-list.cea.fr/), has an open position for a research assistant
in the area of model-driven engineering and distributed real-time,
embedded systems.

The Software Process for Safety Laboratory offers a creative
international environment, a possibility to conduct highly competitive
research on a global scale and involvement in teaching. Within the
project, there are plenty of opportunities to cooperate with national
and international partners. There is the possibility to gain valuable
experience in the field of model-driven engineering and real-time
embedded systems design. The lab is responsible, within CEA-List, for
research activities related to methods and tools for the development of
real-time embedded systems. In this scope, one of the prevailing themes
of the laboratory is the application of model-driven approaches to
real-time embedded systems development. The lab has a recognized
expertise in this field, both on the academic and industrial side. It
participates in numerous European and national research projects
(Artist2, Atesst?), has steady and close relations with some major
actors of the domain, and is strongly involved in international
standardisation bodies like the Object Management Group, where it is
caring the ongoing response for the future OMG standard dedicated to
real-time and embedded systems modelling and analysis
(www.promarte.org).

In the context of a project with EADS/Astrium and Thales, we seek to use
the (lightweight) CORBA Component model (CCM) in environments that (1)
require reconfiguration and (2) have safety constraints. The CEA will be
involved in particular in a case study of Astrium which requires fault
tolerant mechanisms in a safety critical application. The work is based
on extensions of the CCM model we have studied in the European
projects Compare (http://www.ist-compare.org) and Merced
(http://www.itea-merced.org), in particular the addition of a connector
concept that enables customized interaction mechanisms.

The position is funded for a period of 1 year with the option to extend
the period by a half year.

The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent with top performance in a
field that is closely related to computer science. He should have a good
background in CCM and/or shall be familiar with fault tolerance
mechanisms (e.g. FT-CORBA). English is mandatory, French is a plus, but is not
required.

Applications shall be sent by e-mail to ansgar.radermacher at cea.fr or
postal mail to

Ansgar Radermacher
CEA Saclay
91191 Gif-sur-Yvette cedex

Applications have to contain detailed experience and background
information and should contain a referee letter.

Best regards

Ansgar Radermacher
