Intern. Symposium on Quality Engineering for Embedded Systems
                In conjunction with the ECMDA 2008
                                 June 13, 2008
                                Berlin, Germany

                                 Call for papers

Embedded systems (electronics and software) are
of widespread use in safety-critical
domains such as aerospace, automotive, and industrial automation and in
business-critical domains such as communications and consumer electronics.
Stringent quality requirements go together with the demand for low costs and
low maintenance needs, but high safety and security levels, high dependability,
high reliability and short time-to-market. This
symposium will put the emphasis on
quality engineering of these systems.

The best contributions will be selected for
post-symposium publication in the Springer
journal "Software Tools for Technology Transfer"
(STTT, sttt.cs.uni-dortmund.de).

This International Symposium on Quality Engineering of Embeddded Systems is
an affiliated event of the 4th European
Conference on Model Driven Architectures
(ECMDA2008, www.fokus.fraunhofer.de/go/ecmda2008).

It is supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Stiftung
(www.krupp-stiftung.de) - a foundation that supports research in various areas
of sciences and in particular in the field of
quality engineering of embedded systems.

SCOPE:
The following constitutes a non-exclusive list of
topics that the symposium will focus on:

     * Modelling of quality in terms of
dependability, reliability, resilience, etc.
properties;
     * Modelling of embedded, hybrid systems and of their environments;
     * Quality-oriented implementation/conformance relations;
     * Quality support of component platforms for embedded systesm;
     * Design and test patterns for embedded systems;
     * Quality frameworks and tools for embedded systems
     * Fault modelling and handling in the embedded system life-cycle;
     * Model-driven engineering for embedded
systems addressing heterogeneity of models and
views;
     * Variant, configuration and version management for embedded systems;
     * Architecture-driven development of embedded systems;
     * Model-based testing;
     * System development processes;
     * Autonomic approaches for embedded systems;
     * Dynamic reconfiguration for quality;
     * Models at runtime;
     * Requirement engineering processes;
     * Verification and validation approaches;
     * Case studies and applications in
automotive, medical, avionics, telecommunication,
etc.

TYPES OF CONTRIBUTION:
Technical papers: Original work addressing the
topics targeted by the symposium can be
submitted as technical papers. Such papers may
describe basic or applied research and
advanced "work in progress" papers might also be considered.

WELCOME NOTE: Ina Schieferdecker, Fraunhofer
FOKUS / Techn. Univ. Berlin, Germany
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Werner Damm, Oldenburg, Germany

IMPORTANT DATES:
Submissions due by: April 20, 2008 (extended deadline)
Notification of acceptance: May 5, 2008
Camera-Ready for Symposium Proceedings: May 15, 2008
Symposium:  June 13, 2008
Camera-Ready for STTT: August 31, 2008

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
All submissions are to be submitted
electronically via the symposium web site at
www.fokus.fraunhofer.de/go/qees2008.

The preferred format is LaTeX, but PostScript or PDF are also accepted.

Authors who prepare their papers with LaTeX are encouraged to use
the Springer-Verlag's macropackage svjour.
It is available at ftp://ftp.springer.de/pub/tex/latex/svjour/sttt/.

Papers must be written in English. Authors whose
mother tongue is not English are
advised to seek the assistance of a native English speaker who is familiar with
the topic of the paper.

The page limit for technical papers is sixteen (16) pages.

All submissions must be received electronically.
One of the authors of each accepted
paper is to present the paper at the symposium.
