Call for Papers:
The 6th IFIP Workshop on Software Technologies
for Future Embedded & Ubiquitous Systems
SEUS 2008
Villa Orlandi, Anacapri, Capri Island, Italy
October 1-3, 2008
www.mobilab.unina.it/SEUS2008
SPONSORED BY
IFIP WG 10.2 “Embedded Systems”
WORKSHOP SCOPE
----------------------------------------------------------------
Embedded and ubiquitous computing systems have considerably
increased their scope of application over the past few years,
and they include nowadays also mission- and business-critical
scenarios. The advances call for a variety of compelling issues,
including dependability, real-time, autonomy, resource constra-
ints, seamless interaction, etc.
SEUS 2008 will be a forum where researchers and practitioners
with substantial experiences and serious interests in advancing
the state-of-the-art and the state-of-practice in the field of
future embedded and ubiquitous computing systems gather and
engage in review of the state-of-the-art, exchange of signifi-
cant developments, and brain-storming on promising directions
for future research.
SEUS 2007, the first edition sponsored by IFIP, was held in con-
junction with the IEEE International Symposium on Object-,
component-, service-oriented Real-time Distributed Computing
(ISORC). SEUS 2008 will be held as a stand-alone event for the
first time and sponsored by IFIP WG10.2.
Seats will be limited to 55. When a paper is co-authored by
professor(s) and student(s), the paper must be presented by a
professor.
For inclusion in the workshop program, contributions that pre-
sent advances in integrating the fields of embedded computing
and ubiquitous systems are invited. Industrial applications in
the emerging field are also encouraged. Papers can be of a con-
ceptual, theoretical, application-oriented, standards-driving,
innovative design or experimental nature, and should represent
technological or scientific advances.
Topics of interest include (but are not restricted to) the
following:
* Emerging applications, components and services
* Emerging infrastructural support
* Software architecture and programming models
* Communication system architecture
* Middleware and Operating Systems
* Software Engineering, Context Awareness
* Self-Organization and Organic Computing
* Dependability and/or real-time aspects
* Autonomy, resource management
* Human-machine interfaction, seamless interaction
* Embedded software synthesis and verification
* Reports on R&D progress in the field
* Specification of requirements
* Emerging tools and trends
* Emerging standards (or the need for new standards)
* Practical experiences, particularly from industry
* Government strategies
GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPTS
----------------------------------------------------------------
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag
in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series
(www.springer.com/lncs). Regular and short papers should descri-
be original work, and they should follow Springer Verlag's LNCS
manuscript guidelines, available at:
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.
The page limits of camera-ready copies are 12 pages for regular
papers and 6 pages for short papers.
Paper submissions will be handled electronically through the
paper submission system available at:
https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/SEUS2008

Important Dates:
* Paper submission deadline: May 9, 2008
* Notification of acceptance: June 23, 2008
* Final camera-ready manuscripts due: July 4, 2008
