-----------------------------
DEADLINE EXTENDED to MAY 15th
-----------------------------

4th Workshop on
OBJECT TECHNOLOGY for AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE and PERVASIVE COMPUTING (OT4AmI)

At the ECOOP 2008
July 7th, 2008 – Paphos, Cyprus

http://sam.iai.uni-bonn.de/ot4ami2008

MOTIVATION

In the near future, a new level of dynamicity will be required in order
to construct software that is highly context-dependent due to the
mobility of both the software itself and its users. The idea of Ambient
Intelligence is that everybody will be surrounded by a
dynamically-defined processor cloud, of which the applications are
expected to cooperate smoothly.

Ambient Intelligence and Pervasive Computing incorporate aspects from
previously “unrelated” fields such as ubiquitous computing, mobility,
intelligent user interaction, context dependency, domotics, etc. Early
experiments in these fields, as conducted for example by Philips and
MIT, already indicate that a full realization of their potential will
need a new generation of concepts. These concepts need to support
software which is able to operate in extremely dynamic hard- and
software configurations.

GOALS

On the OT4AmI workshop we aim to:

    * identify and discuss the impact of Ambient Intelligence on
      object-oriented technologies and vice versa,
    * outline fruitful paths for future research into the
      connection between Ambient Intelligence and object-oriented
      programming languages and systems.

In this context, we understand the term “object technology” to cover the
whole range of topics that have evolved around the notion of object
orientation in the past decades, starting from programming language
design and implementation, ranging over software architectures,
frameworks and components, up to design approaches and software
development processes.

TOPICS

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  * Programming language concepts (e.g. Aspect-Oriented Programming,
    Context-Oriented Programming)
  * Ambient-Oriented Programming
  * Reflection and reflective virtual machines
  * Biologically-Inspired Concepts
  * Software evolution and maintenance
  * Software Engineering for Autonomous Systems
  * Context modeling, context sensitivity
  * Adaptivity: requirements, methods, and tools
  * Human-device interactions, e.g. multimodality
  * Device-device interaction, e.g. spontaneous collaborations
  * Security of ubiquitous systems
  * Constrained resources and their impact on software development

SUBMISSION

Potential attendants are expected to submit either:

    * a position paper of 2 to 6 pages or
    * a technical paper of up to 10 pages (LNCS)

Papers can either be based on results already achieved or else describe
future work.

Submissions should be mailed as PDF to ot4am at cs.uni-bonn.de
not later than April 30st, 2008.

IMPORTANT DATES

New deadline for submissions: May 15th, 2008
Notification of acceptance: May 26th, 2008
Workshop:                        July 7th, 2008
