Call for Papers
Goal
The goal of the Doctoral symposium at ICGSE 2008 is to provide a forum
in which graduate students can present and discuss their research with a
panel of advisors who are drawn from the Global Software Engineering
research community. Discussion will include research question, methods
and results-to-date, and should provide students with guidance towards
completion of a research thesis.
Important Dates
Submission: March 14
Notification of Acceptance: April 18
Final paper / Camera-Ready Copy Due: May 23
Scope
The research scope of the Doctoral Symposium is that of ICGSE 2008.
Student participants will have the opportunity to meet with other
students and with other advisors who are experienced members of the
Global Software Engineering community. Ideally, students who apply to
participate in the symposium will at least have developed their research
question and expect to complete their theses after mid-2009. Students
who are selected to present will give a 30 minute presentation following
which advisors present will discuss the students' research project with
the student in a supportive manner. A limited number of students who
are not selected to present will be invited to attend the symposium.
Submissions:
Applicants must submit a research summary and an advisor's
recommendation letter (in PDF) to the Doctoral Symposium Chair, Dr. Ita
Richardson at ICGSE.DocSymp at ul.ie.
Research summary:
The research summary should be a maximum of 2,500 words (excluding name,
contact details, references), formatted to the ICGSE submission
guidelines and written in English. This summary should include:
Title, Name and Contact Details, Abstract (max 100 words), Research
question and a justification of its importance, Related work in this
area, Research methodology, Research carried out to-date, Results
achieved to-date (if any), Expected contribution, References.
Evaluation will take the stage of students' research into account.
Submissions which exceed the maximum length may not be considered.
Please submit the research summary in PDF format.
Advisor's Recommendation Letter:
The Recommendation Letter, sent by the advisor, should include the
student's name, an assessment of the current status of the research and
an expected date for thesis submission. The Doctoral Symposium Chair
may contact the advisor directly.
Review
Students will be chosen using the following criteria: potential quality
of the research and its relevance to global software engineering,
quality of the research abstract, stage of the research (students will
be selected across a range of research stages), research topic and
approach.
Acceptance
Accepted research abstracts will appear on the ICSGE 2008 CD. Deadlines
for camera-ready submissions are fixed.
Student support
There is no fee for attendance at the Doctoral Symposium. There may be
student support for attendance at ICGSE 2008.
