Salary: £23,692 - £27,466 (Research Associate)
£29,138 - £33,780 (Senior Research Associate)
For post 1, the position is for 17 months until the end of the project with
a focus on requirements engineering and traceability expected start date
May 2008.
For post 2, the position is for 12 months until the end of the project with
a focus on software architecture expected start date September 2008
Applications are invited for two exciting research position in software
engineering at the Computing Department at Lancaster University. The focus
of the posts is on development requirements- and architecture-level
mechanisms for engineering software product lines and maintaining
traceability of product line features to their sources. The candidates will
be researching the use of aspect-oriented and model-driven engineering
techniques or a combination thereof to develop product lines that are
resilient to change. One of the posts is for 17 months and the other for 12
months. The successful candidates will join an ambitious research team with
a longstanding record of work on software engineering, especially
aspect-oriented and model-driven techniques.
This position is funded through the European Commission Framework 6 project
on Aspect-Oriented, Model-Driven Product Line Engineering (AMPLE). The
project focuses on combining aspect-oriented and model-driven techniques to
address variability at each stage in a software product line engineering
lifecycle and bind the variation points in various development stages and
dimensions into a coherent variability framework across the life cycle.
For the two posts, we will entertain applications from both pre-doc and
post-doc researchers. A pre-doc researcher must have a BSc or MSc in
Computer Science or a closely related topic and demonstrate an aptitude for
research. A track record of research evidenced through publications or
thesis/project work will be highly desirable. A post-doc researcher must
have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (or close to
completing one). The candidates must possess knowledge and experience of
software engineering especially development of reusable artefacts and
composition mechanisms. They should also possess knowledge and/or experience
of aspect-oriented and/or model-driven engineering techniques. Conversely,
or in addition to the above, they should have knowledge and/or experience of
software product line engineering or software variability techniques.
Suitable candidates are encouraged to make informal enquires to Prof. Awais
Rashid (awais at comp.lancs.ac.uk) and visit the Aspect-Oriented Software
Engineering pages at Lancaster University:
